SALISBURY CATHOLICS – INTERNATIONAL MASS

WHY?

For the past five years or more, the Salisbury Catholic Community, based on the local churches of St Osmund’s Exeter St, St Gregory’s, Bemerton and Holy Redeemer, Bishopdown has celebrated the diversity of its parishioners from approximately twenty diverse nations with an annual Friday evening Mass and a Bring and Share supper of national dishes.

Some of the nations represented in our Salisbury Catholic community are, in alphabetical order:

Africa: Nigeria, South Africa

America: Canada and USA

Asia:  India, Philippines

Australasia:  Australia and Fiji

Europe: France, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Spain plus the four UK home nations.

WHAT?

This year’s theme is ‘Mission.’

A celebration of Mass including prayers and hymns to reflect the diversity of our Catholic community.

Followed by a ‘Bring and Share’ supper of national dishes

Wearing of national dress is encouraged.

Attendance has grown from over two hundred to over 400 people last year; we are hoping to break the 500 barrier this year.

Mr John Glenn, our local MP, is attending this Mass.

 

WHERE and WHEN?

This celebration has outgrown our local Salisbury Catholic churches.

It is to be held St Joseph’s Catholic School, Laverstock at 7 pm Friday 12 October 2018.

 

LATEST NEWS FROM THE NEWSLETTER

Planning is underway for this year’s International Mass, at which we hope to have as many different country's represented as possible. We invite parishioners to attend this wonderful celebration of our multi-cultural parish. If you know of any one needing a lift please contact the parish office. We ask that as many of you as possible bring your national dish to share at the supper that follows the Mass. No NUTs or NUT extracts please. Dishes should be cooked through and warm to go in warming cupboards, and a label saying what it is. The Mass will be recorded & photographs taken. If anyone wishes to object to their photographs being taken & published they MUST inform the parish office prior to the Mass. The final planning meeting will be held on Monday 8 October at 7pm in St Osmund’s Parish Rooms.  Please contact Bernie with any food related queries on 07876 773525.
