Salisbury Parishioners on Pilgrimage to Lourdes
On 24 May, a group of parishioners from the Salisbury Catholic Churches will be departing by coach with The Society of Our Lady of Lourdes on their annual pilgrimage of the sick. We are delighted that such a large group from Salisbury and Amesbury are travelling together to this important pilgrimage site and are grateful to the Society for enabling their trip. Salisbury parishioner, Sacha Blanchard is a trustee of the Society and we are grateful to her for organising our group with her wonderful cheerfulness and enthusiasm to support the faith of others.
The group will fly from Exeter airport to Lourdes in the south of France. Lourdes is a small market town in the foothills of the Pyrenees where Our Lady appeared to a young peasant girl – Bernadette Soubirous (later canonised as St Bernadette). Lourdes is the third most popular site of international Catholic pilgrimage after Rome and the Holy Land. Our Lady of Lourdes is the patron saint of the sick and Large numbers of sick pilgrims travel to Lourdes each year for physical healing and spiritual renewal.
Prayers and Petitions from our parishes
During the month of May there is a basket at the foot of the Statue of Mary in each of our churches. We encourage parishioners to place their prayers and petitions in these baskets which will then be taken and presented at Mass in the Rosary Basilica on Saturday 25 May and then taken to the Grotto by Archbishop Kevin McDonald. The baskets will be collected from the churches on 23 May. Please do NOT place money or offerings in these envelopes – prayers only please.

Please support the Catenian’s fundraising efforts this year if you are able.
Prayer to Our Lady of Lourdes
O ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy,
Health of the Sick, Refuge of Sinners,
Comforter of the Afflicted,
you know our wants, our troubles and our sufferings.
Look upon us with kindness, we pray.
When you appeared in the grotto of Lourdes, you made it a privileged sanctuary
where many sufferers have obtained cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal.
We come before you with unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession.
Loving Mother, present our prayers to your Son, Jesus, and support us in our endeavours
to imitate your virtues so that we may one day share your company eternity. Amen.
Our Lady of Lourdes – pray for us
St Bernadette – pray for us.
A Prayer for those experiencing ill health.
I reach out to you, my God, in this time of need.
Carry me on the difficult days when I have no strength.
Wrap me in your love when I am discouraged.
May your grace wash over me and refresh me.
And as you hold me tenderly in the palm of your hand,
I ask for healing of all my afflictions.
A Prayer for Caregivers
Lord, be present to us today as we do the work of your hands.
Embolden us as we care for those entrusted to us.
Grant us the skill and the patience needed to serve all we meet.
May we always be a compassionate presence, a listening ear
and a voice of reason in the chaos that sometimes envelops those we serve.
Help us to be beacons of light, hope, and promise along the way.
And when the dawn of a new day arrives, renew and refresh us as we begin anew.
