Thy Kingdom Come 2018

Thy Kingdom Come invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer. In his role as Joint President of the Council of Churches for England, Cardinal Vincent Nicols says: ‘To have a week of prayer for Christian mission is just a wonderful thing. Please do join in before Pentecost, this drive to pray together for the gift of God’s spirit for our mission. We know how rich Pentecost is in the life of the Church from its very beginning. That richness can be ours too, if we ask God for it.’

Individuals, families and parishes were invited to Pledge to Pray. This is done by logging on to the Thy Kingdom Come website, and each pledge lights up a dot on worldwide map. We hope to encourage as many people as possible to become involved in Thy Kingdom Come and, through the workings of the Holy Spirit, take forward the work of evangelisation and outreach from the Salisbury Catholic Churches. It was wonderful to see many, many Catholic parishioners at this event.  Everyone attending was welcomed with a Lord’s Prayer bookmark and there were opportunities through video, art, conversation, prayer and worship to engage in life-changing prayer.  There was also a Prayer Tree in the Cathedral where individuals could hang the prayers they had written. Link to Photos.

Prayer for Thy Kingdom Come

Almighty God, your ascended Son has sent us into the world to preach the good news of your kingdom:

inspire us with your Spirit and fill our hearts with the fire of your love, that all who hear your word may be drawn to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
