YEAR OF PRAYER

Second Sunday of Advent - The Gospel begins: ‘Tiberius was Emperor,  Pontius Pilate was Governor, Caiaphas was High Priest.’ God did not speak to any of these important people. The word of God came to John in the wilderness.  God spoke to someone on the edge, in the desert.   God wants to speak his word to every person but if we are to hear the word of God we need to clear a way so that we can hear.  John the Baptist proclaims: ‘Prepare a way for the Lord – make his paths straight.’  Most of us are not called to go into the wilderness but each of us can make time for silence to listen to God’s word. Advent is a time to realise that God is constantly speaking his word to us.  We are called to make the time to listen.
