YEAR OF PRAYER: SIXTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

There is choice in the first reading, the psalm and the gospel in this week’s readings – a path of blessing or a path which takes us away from the Lord. Today’s psalm invites us to ground ourselves in God. Listening to God’s Law, holding it at the centre of all that we are, anchoring ourselves in him, brings tremendous fruitfulness. When our roots are planted in him then there is a security, a certain biblical ‘happiness’. It doesn’t necessarily mean that there is a constant feeling of glee but rather contentedness, blessedness. When we realise that life is poor without him, that there is a deep hunger for him, a certain emptiness that only he can heal... then we are blessed because there is room for God.
