Diaconate

Bishop Bosco marks our Permanent Diaconate Vocations Sunday with a renewed call for men to consider becoming deacons

Parishioners across our diocese are being encouraged to reflect on the role of service in the Church this weekend, as Bishop Bosco marks our Permanent Diaconate Vocations Sunday with a renewed call for men to consider becoming deacons.

Drawing on this Sunday’s Gospel, in which Jesus speaks of a plentiful harvest but a shortage of labourers, Bishop Bosco highlights the ongoing need for faithful men to step forward in service to their communities. He notes that the message remains just as relevant today, as many people continue to search for hope, guidance, and support in their lives.

To coincide with our Permanent Diaconate Vocations Sunday, Bishop Bosco has also released a video message (viewable on the right) in which he personally invites men to consider the diaconate. In the video, he speaks directly about the need for servant leaders in today’s Church and encourages viewers to be open to where God may be calling them.

He also urges all parishioners to pray for vocations to the permanent diaconate, asking that those called will have the courage to respond and that parish communities will continue to grow as places of faith, service, and hope.

Permanent Diaconate

Might God be calling you to serve as a permanent deacon within the Clifton Diocese?

Do you have a deep commitment to your Catholic Faith and your prayer life?

Are you committed to your family and work – faithful to your responsibilities and generous with your time?

Do you have a strong desire to serve others, in the Church and in the wider community?

Have others suggested that you might consider the permanent diaconate to be a vocation for you?

Perhaps God is calling you.

We would always recommend that you have a chat first of all with your own parish priest. He will be able to help you to understand what the permanent diaconate is about. Next do have a talk with Deacon Steve Boughton who can help you with the initial discernment and whether or not you might consider applying to be accepted onto the formation programme for the permanent diaconate.
