Thomas Lawes
Many, many congratulations to Thomas Lawes who was ordained a Deacon on 14 December at St John’s Seminary. Thomas was raised right here in our parishes and many parishioners know the family well. David, Jennifer and the children lived for a number of years in the house adjacent to Holy Redeemer Church in Bishopdown and were very active in the life of our parishes. Thomas attended St Osmund’s and St Joseph’s Schools and entered the seminary at Wonersh in September 2014. Many of our young parishioners will know Thomas from our parish youth ministry groups – including the pilgrimages to World Youth Day in Madrid in 2011 and Krakow in 2016.
A Salisbury ‘delegation’ travelled to Wonersh for the ordination and report that it was a beautiful and grace-filled occasion. Thomas’s brother, Albert, (who is also a seminarian but studying at the Venerable English College in Rome) sang the Litany of the Saints beautifully, we hear! God willing, both Thomas and Albert will be ordained to the priesthood in Summer 2020.
Thomas and his family will be in Salisbury this weekend and Thomas will be the Deacon at the 9am Mass in St Osmund’s on 22 December. What a wonderful moment in the life of our parishes.
Please continue to keep Thomas and his brothers in your prayers. Thanks be to God.
