Adopt a Street

New Mission Initiative - Adopt a Street!

During Advent, we delivered 2,500 leaflets across the city inviting people to our churches at Christmas. This was a different and separate initiative to the visits we make to the homes of registered parishioners with the Mass times card and was just one of a number of outreach activities that we undertook during our Year of Mission.

The leaflets were delivered mainly to the new housing developments in and around the city by a small and dedicated group of volunteers. Our missionary activities are clearly bearing fruit as evidenced by how full all of our Christmas Masses were and the number of newcomers and visitors we welcomed. We would like to continue to reach out to the people of our area in this way. However, for this to remain sustainable, a better approach to delivering leaflets or flyers would be to involve as many parishioners as possible, all doing a really small bit each and so we are launching a new initiative.

We are calling this initiative ‘Adopt a Street’.  If you would be willing to post a leaflet through letterboxes in your own street, a neighbouring street or any street you wish to adopt, we would like to hear from you. We will be co-ordinating this initiative on our website so that everyone will be able to see clearly which streets have already been adopted so that we are not duplicating effort or delivering twice to any one house. This is a great way for everyone to play their part in the missionary activity of the Church.  To volunteer, simply email or phone and let us know which street/s you would like to adopt, the approximate number of leaflets that you will need for that street and which Mass you normally attend (so that we can distribute the leaflets to each ‘deliverer’ at the correct Sunday (or weekday) Mass.

Email [email protected] or phone Caroline on 502503 or Tony on 500653.  As each street is ‘adopted’ it will be listed on a dedicated area of our website: https://salisburycatholics.org/adopt-street so that everyone can see clearly which streets are already adopted.  If you do not have access to the internet and would like to join in, please simply call us and we will take all the details over the telephone.
