St Osmund’s School

From Richard Sanderson Headteacher St Osmund’s school

I am writing this to keep our Parishioners informed of some exciting developments at St Osmund’s Catholic Primary School.

You may be aware that our closest Catholic Primary School – Christ the King, Amesbury – has been in difficulty for over three years now.  Latterly, we have been offering informal support but from September, our partnership is going to become a formal Collaboration.  We are going to be working closely together – sharing staff, resources, some financial collaboration, and governance.

We are currently in a strong position to be able to offer that support to Christ the King, whilst at the same time, ensuring that St Osmund’s continues to grow and improve.

I think that this collaboration will bring great benefits to both schools.   I foresee the following arising from our collaborative plans:

  • Greater professional and career development for our staff as part of an expanded staff team covering both schools
  • Economies of scale through bigger buying power; community development
  • Enhanced SEN support through better specialist SEN provision

This is both opportunity and evolution.  Opportunity to retain strong Catholic support and leadership whilst simultaneously allowing for growth and improvement in our staff, and for the school.  St Osmund’s, by being part of a collaboration such as this, has the opportunity to support other children who have the right to realise their potential.  We fulfil the desire of the Diocese to reach out and support others – do not be an island – and in doing so, we ensure that in moments of need that we will surely encounter in the future, we have a friend to catch us and bring us alongside them once more.

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!
Psalm 133:1
