SPUC WHITE FLOWER APPEAL 2026

For The Salisbury Parish Churches

As  part of SPUC’s White Flower Appeal, we are holding a collection at the end of Mass to promote the right to life in our society. The White Flower Appeal is dedicated to protecting unborn children and promoting the right to life in society. Our appeals in Churches raise awareness of pro-life matters to parishioners and the donations we receive allows SPUC to continue our tireless work to build a culture of life. We work to educate youth, lobby politicians, mobilise pro-life activities in the community, provide support to students facing crisis pregnancies and much more.

The White Flower Appeal is inspired by the courage of the White Rose Movement during World War II, which opposed the tyranny of the Nazi regime, when so many lives were lost. Today, we need similar courage to stand for the vulnerable among us who are also losing their lives.

We are offering a better vision for society. So many lives are still being lost, and so much hurt continues to be inflicted, while many people don’t know any better.

The Bible tells us, in Genesis 1:26 that human beings are created in His image. At SPUC we therefore believe that all human life is sacred and is to be protected from conception in the womb to a natural death.

In Psalm 139 verse 13 we read these beautiful words:

“For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb”.

Despite the best efforts of the Church and pro-life organisations to promote the right to life for all, we are seeing a continuing growth in the threats to life. Some months ago in 2025, attempts were made to permit assisted suicide across the UK, and at the same time politicians have also given strong support to relaxing the law and allow women to procure their own abortions at home, right up to the point of birth, without answering to the law in any way.

SPUC is working every day to fight these proposals and, as of yet, they have not been brought into law.

SPUC has been encouraging supporters to write to members of the House of Lords asking them to oppose assisted suicide and abortion decriminalisation. If you have already written- thankyou. If you have not yet written, please do so. The Lords can still vote to throw both issues out, so please do continue to write to them. Please take and use the postcards provided in Church for this or go to the SPUC website for information at https//:spuc.org.uk

The bigger picture however is that we need to change the hearts and minds of wider society.

Life is a precious gift but we know that there are times of challenge and if the law permits it, many can be lead down the path of making wrong and terrible choices.

Challenges and difficulties need to be responded to with care and compassion but never killing.

At SPUC we have a wide range of activities to let people know about the value of human life. We reach out to schools, parishes and universities. We also have several platforms such as a YouTube channel, SPUC TV and social media platforms such as Facebook to reach our society.

Our pro-life campaigns are driven by compassion. We want to avoid help the suffering of abortion and we have an initiative to support students in a crisis pregnancy situation as well as a dedicated counselling service called ARCH, which stands for Abortion Recovery Care Helpline- to help those  who are suffering after having had an abortion.

See www.archtrust.org.uk

Almost 11 million unborn lives have been lost in the UK alone since abortion was legalized in the nation in 1967 and the pain that abortion brings to both individuals and families is ever increasing.

That is why SPUC’s Abortion Recovery Care Helpline -ARCH, offers help to both women and men dealing with the effects of an abortion experience.

After more than half a century of legalised abortion in the UK, our society has lost the sight of the value of human life in the womb. Clever slogans and the manipulated language of media narratives numb us to the truth, but we now need to be the generation that rises up and builds a culture of life and not death.

To do this, we need your help and action.

Please consider if you can make the pro-life cause something that you could give even a little help to.

Please consider filling in one of these “Fightback” postcards in Church to receive an action pack, giving further details about what you can do to help defend life at this critical time for our nation.

Please remember the work of SPUC in your prayers and continue to pray that both the assisted suicide bill and abortion decriminalisation will be defeated.

Any donation you can make today will be greatly appreciated and will help SPUC to continue in its efforts to bring healing, hope and respect for human life.

Finally, if you would like to be involved in the Salisbury Branch of SPUC or need any further information please email the SPUC Development Officer for SW England and Wales Julie Vivienne at:
