YEAR OF PRAYER: SEVENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

Compassion is the quality of discipleship; compassion alongside mercy, gentleness and forgiveness. Jesus is calling us to go beyond the safety and the security of loving those who simply love us. He calls his disciples to be reflections and echoes of divine love and compassion, forgiveness and healing. When we know ourselves blessed (as we reflected in last Sunday’s readings) then we are called to be a blessing for others. If we come to know the tremendous love of God in our own lives, if we know ourselves to be forgiven and healed, then we are called, not to keep that to ourselves but to bring it to others. ‘Be compassionate as your Father is compassionate’. A disciple is one who knows themselves loved and allows the compassion of God to touch the lives of others... through them.
