Dedication of St Osmund’s Church 6 September

178 years ago today (Wednesday 6 Sep 1848), St Osmund’s Church was consecrated by Bishop Ullathorne. The following day, at 10:30am, he presided in a solemn Mass of Dedication when the church was dedicated to St Osmund. It was sung ‘antiphonically by a choir of priests in the Plain Chant of St Gregory’. In the evening there was Vespers and Benediction. There were 268 people in the congregation excluding the priests. In the church archive we have the Order of Service of the Dedication, as well as the seating arrangement. Seating plan below.
